The theme for this week’s Project 52 photo is: WORDS. I knew instantly what I wanted to do, I just had to wait for the right time to do it. I have seen this technique done several places before but had never attempted it myself. I’m quite proud that it only took me 5 tries to be satisfied with the end product! For those of you wondering how it was done, I used a tripod and a flashlight in a pitch black room with a long exposure. Pretty nifty, huh?

This week my little family got some big news! I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and we had our Level II ultrasound this past Thursday. The baby is growing perfectly and weighs approximately 9 ounces right now. We also found out that in June our crew will be welcoming our third baby

Our theme for this week’s Project 52 shot is “Landscape.” And if you’ve ever been to the mid-Atlantic states in January you know there isn’t much to look at (unless it happened to have snowed recently!). I was really stumped. Everything around here is BROWN right now. Dull, uninteresting, monochromatic brown. So I put off this assignment until the very last minute. Literally, as the sun was setting on Thursday night I wandered outside to try and find some beauty. What I saw and realized I loved about our new neighborhood is that the landscaping is mature in every yard… and very pretty to look at. In particular is this ivy that grows on so many of the trees here. So yes, there can be beauty found in a cold and dreary landscape. You just have to look for it.

Welcome to my first 10 on 10 Project posting! Words cannot express how excited I am over this little project! This kind of memory-making is exactly what drew me to photography almost 5 years ago when my oldest was just a baby. At that time, I was a first time mom and would spend my days marveling over how perfect he was and trying to catch every tiny moment that made those early days so special. I am pretty sure I can count on one hand how many days I did NOT photograph my older son during his first 2 years of life. I loved being able to freeze time through my lens. As he got older and more active and along came baby brother, our all day photo sessions became few and far between.

But I’m ready to get back there, to remember why I started shooting in the first place, even if it’s just one day a month! Which is where my new 10 on 10 Project comes in. For one day a month, I will take 10 photos documenting our daily lives and post them here on my blog on the 10th of the month!

I loved my first day of all day shooting. LOVED IT. It was a day that I worked at my older sons pre-school co-op in the morning so I was able to catch a million fun things that happened. I may have gotten a little snap-happy while caught up in the moment… I ended my 10 hours of shooting with nearly 100 photos! At first I thought there was no way I could pick just one photograph from every hour … but I succeeded! I can’t promise I won’t bend the rules and share more than just 10 photos in the future but for my first installment I did narrow it down for you. The really awesome “side effect” of this first day of over-zealous shooting is I now have dozens of new photos of my boys that I can treasure forever and remember how they were at 1 and 4 years old.

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2012. I hope that it has been a good one for you so far!

I am SO excited about this new year finally being here! If I could sum up 2011 in one word it would be: transition. In June of last year my husband received a job offer we couldn’t say no to. It required a move 900 miles away from the only home our boys could remember… but it also moved us back to where I consider my home, the city of Baltimore. I grew up in this city … but college, our careers, and marriage moved us all around the east coast for the last decade. It took months to sell our home in Georgia and then find a new home in Maryland. We were in a state of limbo for the entire second half of last year and I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to put our feet down, turn the page and start a new chapter in our lives.

And what good is a new year without a New Year’s Resolution? This year, I’ve resolved to get back to shooting for me. I’ve let my passion for photography fall by the wayside while my sometimes chaotic life as mama to 2 little boys got in the way. I can’t help but feel my creativity has suffered.

I’ve joined 2 groups of very talented photographers while I embark of 2 separate photography projects this year. The first is a Project 52, where I will shoot one photo a week based on a theme set by the group. The other project is called “10 on 10″ and if you come back on the 10th of the month you will get to learn all about that project!

The theme for Week 1 of my Project 52 is “New.”

So now I’m sure you are wondering… how on earth is a photo of a 60 year old home considered “new”??? Very simple, this is our new home. We searched high and low for this house all of last fall. We closed on it on Dec 15th and moved our stuff out of storage and into this house on Dec 16th. Yup, just 9 days before Christmas! The timing was hectic and we were wall-to-wall boxes for about 2 weeks, but the dust has settled now and it is already feeling like home to us. This house marks the beginning of our new life and new beginnings for our family.

Click on over to Cathy Kuhlman | Philadelphia, PA to see what picture she came up with for this weeks theme – NEW.

Can I tell you how much I am LOVING being “home”? For the last 10 years my husband and I have moved all around the east coast like nomads, never living less than a few hours from where I grew up in Maryland. But with his new job we found ourselves back in Maryland. And I am loving it! In the past week I have seen and been able to visit with more family than I have in months (years!). It is truly a blessing to be back here.

When my aunt asked me if I’d photograph her granddaughter I jumped at the opportunity. With packing and moving and just everything going on in my life these days, I haven’t really picked up my camera in weeks. It was a fun session with Miss Leah. And in true 18 month old style, she was on the move the entire time!
